Fragmente der Erinnerung ... dieses Stück hier wurde zerrissen The remembrance installation is a temporary memorial for the pogrom of 9th November 1938 also known as ‘’Kristallnacht’’ Four pieces of glass windows are installed in the room in different conditions (from broken to intact). The three stories of Abdullahi A. Osman appear imprinted on the broken glass pieces and archived images of the Pogrom (namely the Kristallnacht in Salzburg, 1938) projected onto the last intact glass surface. History is brittle and can easily be broken or forgotten if not protected. Meanwhile, a choir of can be heard through speakers, filling up the room with the continually recited sentence: ‘Wir vergessen nie und werden niemals dulden!’’ in several languages. Through the different stages of the installation the viewer is invited todirectly engage in the process of remembranceby reflecting on fragmented historical narratives and arrive to a shared state of archive/history preservation and resistance towards antisemitic actions. This installation also comes as a questioning of who gets to retell the stories of those who have suffered under the Nazi Regime and how do we engage with the process of reparations. Solidarity is definitely one way, however the artists invites the viewer to not stop and gaze comfortably but instead engage in critical discourse and dialogue
Participative Installation concept developed and installed in collaboration with Anna Szepes and Luqua Bertin
